Mildred M. ‘Blackie’ Penry

Topeka Services for Mildred M. “Blackie” Penry, 70, Topeka, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Topeka.

Mrs. Penry died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at her home.

She was born Feb. 26, 1932, in Fall Leaf, the daughter of Wilbert W. and Sophie Ann (Bryant) Roberts. She graduated from Perry High School.

Mrs. Penry worked as a housekeeper at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, for 17 years. She retired in 1997. Before working at the hospital, she had worked at Seymour Foods for more than 15 years. She and her husband lived in the Grantville area for 41 years.

She married Russell E. Penry on May 20, 1951, in Topeka. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Russelena “Rose” E. Penry and Regina E. Asher, both of Topeka; three sons, Rex E. Penry and Randy E. Penry, both of Topeka, and Ron E. Penry, Meriden; a brother, Wilbert “Bud” Roberts, Perry; four sisters, Mary Quigley, Perry, Bonnie Greene, McMinnville, Tenn., Bettie Coon, Topeka, and Juna Dell Rodecap, Berryton; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
