Barbara Ott

Barbara Ann Ott, age 74 of Wellsville, KS passed away, Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Wellsville Retirement Community. Funeral services will be 10:30AM, Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville. Visitation will be 5-7:30PM, Wednesday evening also at the funeral home. Interment will follow services in the Wellsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Co. Meals on Wheels or the Barbara Ott Memorial Fund in care of Wilson’s, PO Box 486, Wellsville, KS 66092.

Barbara Ann Ott was born February 5, 1945 in Lawrence, KS the daughter of Eugene Emmett and Ida Mae (Puckett) Walker. Barbara grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1963. She worked at the Granada Theater on Mass Street for some time after graduation, which she really enjoyed. On May 7, 1966 she married Jerry Frank Ott in Eudora. They celebrated 30 years of marriage before his passing in 1997.

Barbara was a farm wife and homemaker for many years while raising her children and in 1982 achieved her Associates Degree in Dental Assisting. She worked for Dr. Rogers and Dr. Reef in Wellsville, Dr. Wittenaur in Eudora, and Dr. Thompson in Ottawa, among others. She also co-owned Wellsville Hardware, Wellsville Heating and Cooling and Ottawa Heating and Cooling with her husband, Jerry for 15 years. She later worked for Arvest Bank and Gardner National Bank until around 2008 when she retired. After retirement, Barbara volunteered for many civic organizations and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Wellsville Chamber of Commerce, and the Wellsville Baptist Church. She loved the community of Wellsville and was loved by so very many for her kind nature and sweet manner.

Barbara is survived by her son and his wife, Kevin and Linda Ott of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Traci and Jason Porter of Olathe; twin sister, Betty J. LaRue and her husband, Kenneth of Wellsville; sister, Shirley Mae Walker of Lawrence; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Gary Walker.
