Geraldine Hammig

Jeri Hammig died at Shawnee Mission Hospital on Friday, Oct. 5th. She was born in Lawrence, Kansas on November 9th, 1935, the daughter of Mayme and Lonnie Trovillion.

Jeri was a 1953 graduate of Lawrence High School and attended Kansas University.

Jeri worked at Weavers Department Store in Lawrence for a number of years and was a School Secretary at West Antioch Elementary School in Shawnee Mission for 19 years. She was a member of Overland Park Lutheran Church.

Jeri married Jack Hammig on March 11, 1955, he survives at home. They had three sons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Bret, her sister Dorothy Moon, a half-sister, Virginia Hopkins, two half-brothers, Marvin Kincheloe and Don Trovillion.

She is survived by her two sons, Bryant Hammig of Wausau, Wisconsin and Bart (Heather) Hammig of Fayetteville, Arkansas and her grandchildren Ted Hammig and Danielle Hammig; her sister Darlene (Wayne) Pennock, her brother in law, Dwayne Moon, and her sisters in law, Mary Hammig and Martha (Dick) Patterson.

Jeri loved many sports. She was an avid KU Basketball fan. She loved holiday traditions and above all she loved being with her family. Her grandchildren were absolutely the light of her life. They, along with her two sons, Bryant and Bart, brought so much joy and happiness to Jack and Jeri’s lives. She delighted in Ted’s ability to compose music and play just about any instrument and Danielle’s gymnastic excellence. She always looked forward to lunches shared monthly with her sisters and nieces.

A memorial Service will be held at 11:30 Monday, October 8th at Overland Park Lutheran Church, 7810 W 79th St, Overland Park. A graveside service will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1517 E 15th, Lawrence at 1:30.
