Well, you got school board members, principals, and students to give their opinions. Most of them said the same thing. I think that might mean that there should be a change, and that the two schools aren't equal. One of you though needs to be injected with like pure caffeine before he talks though, just to get rid of the monotone. This story really does matter, and the paper or the news should follow it up.

Why isn't this on the most discussed list? Why aren't people talking about this? It almost proves that people are unwilling to take a look at this because no one actually wants to talk about it.. This is what's wrong with the school board.

And all the kids reading sound fine. I don't really know what you're talking about.

Taxpayers were promised, on their word of honor, by the school board that the two high schools would always be equal if they voted yes for a second high school. Amazing how many gullible people believed that. Now, are you going to keep believing everything they promise or have you finally opened your eyes? Make them honor their promise or penalize them financially. Now that would be interesting. This could have been avoided if they would have considered, and maybe let the public vote on, whether instead of having two separate highschools, had 9th and 10 graders at LHS and 11th and 12th grades at Freestate. But Mary Loveland got what she thought she wanted and then had to buy a second home for her senior to live in when she accidently bought her house on the wrong side of the tracks.

Absolutely nothing about race, or class, or who actually owns and controls Lawrence and its civic and business instututions is discussed in this newspaper — or anywhere else in this pathetic excuse for an American community.

So, if you want people to know about something,get a conversation started.. you can do like consumer1 did on another article today…post several posts, until it shows up somewhere.
Or you can mention and link to it on the OTS thread, so people will go look if interested.

I find many things I overlooked, by finding someone has made a comment.

My soundcard is out, so audio pods are useless to me, but I have friends who are blind, and they appreciate them a lot.

And there is a flip-side to all this discussion that nobody has addressed either. How do you think the poorer kids who go to Free State feel? There are less of them, and so they feel totally out of place and isolated even worse than the poorer kids at Lawrence High. It is sad that the focus seems to be more about money than about kids.

I was just told by a friend that she heard today that once again there would only drivers ed classes held at Freestate. Wasn't there a big fuss about this some years back and it was decided to have one session at LHS and one at Freestate? When did the school district sneak it back to only at Freestate and why haven't the parents on the south and east side of town made a fuss about it? With the price of gas it is unfair to those parents that live closer to LHS.

I'm not even sure if it is feasible for the kids to ride the T. What time does it start and how long would it take to go from let's say 23rd and Haskell to Freestate?

Why am I not surprised. I'll have to call and check when they stopped having them at LHS again. This is definately not equal.

For what it's worth, it would be next to impossible to have driver's ed classes at LHS this summer with the city tearing up 19th street.

Let's hope that was the reason. I heard that the students from Cordley attending summer school this year must go to Langston Hughes instead of Kennedy as they had in the past. Any thoughts on that one as to why?

To the Student producers of the podcast: Congrats and great job! You have done a masterful job of reporting and interviewing. My daughter was a 2002 LHS grad and we (LHS parents) saw this coming back when FSH opened. It was just a matter of time. The next big story will be what the school board does to fix the problem. They (the board) need to fix it or be replaced in the next election.
