Have the 1% reward the 99% for any effort they make to lose weight, even if they don't lose a pound. But 47% are quite happy being overweight and won't change a thing.
(I really should get my fat a$$ outa this chair and run for office . . . )
Or we could cut our carbohydrate intake and exercise more. Whatever.
Laugh! Are you kidding? Umm, take a look at the "crew." . . . One of these things is not like the other. Which one of these things is doing its' own thing?....."
Answer. Maybe change the drinking age for those over 120 lbs.(women) to 87 yrs old when they are not obese?? For men, maybe 180 lbs. Or, just make it a drinking weight (instead of age) which contributes to obesity- age, height, bone mass, and fatty index. Instead of letting the herd in for a cover charge, let them make weight on a scale outside the bar door. Height appropriate, please.
Have a nice Day !
I agree there are ways to find deals, but sometimes whole foods are more expensive as well. Brown rice costs more than white rice, good extra virgin olive oil costs more than corn oil, whole wheat bread more that white bread, etc.
Think about it a bag of chips has a long shelf life. Fresh foods don't hold long and people really can't be spending gas money running to the store all the time. You can get a t.v dinner or a frozen pizza for only a couple of dollars and it holds a long time. The problem is we expect people to work there butt off and then we have no time to cook. Anymore it's about quick easy foods. We just need to make those more healthy.
I shop once a week and get very fresh healthy food.
It certainly lasts at least a week.
Although, I agree it would be nice to have more healthy easy choices (there are things like Lean Cuisine, which is pretty good, but a little pricy).
I like Pie. Wait. Meant to say I like Py! Pywacket Rocks!
Edgar_Haskell. Yep. I think you nailed this psycho Halle Berry. Looks like she played it well for HER kid.
What a trollop. Only saw her in one good movie anyway - Monsters Ball. Otherwise useless.
Sadness leads to weight gain. End sadness.
For some, that would mean getting a new governor or president.
For some it would be mean revolution and the redistribution of wealth.
For some it would mean continuing to push the definition of employment towards enslavement. Perhaps we should just simply remain sad and dedicate our lives to plants, those both industrial and green.
Various agencies have begun to give "incentives" to employees for submitting to health examinations...I mean...seeking health! That makes me sad. The metrics of the matrix is the mother of all intervention.
"Incentives" in some cases means getting a yearly health exam to avoid paying significantly more for your health insurance. I just had mine yesterday. Had to drop 19 pounds in just over a month to get my weight below a certain threshold. "It's anonymous". Yeah, right. Liars. They're profiling and the unhealthy will be the first to go.
Do like NY Mayor Bloomberg did. Ban all fountain drinks over 16 oz.
Just playing.I wanted to see how many "nanny state" comments I could get.
Uh... get off your a$$ and move.
I'm not overweight, I'm . . . vertically challenged. If I was at my natural height of 7'4" you would never even notice me!
Oh, and "Big Boned"! Yeah, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
Three of the comments from these "people on the street" are idiotic -- a reflection of the general loss of common sense in the populace that is a major factor in all of our societal problems. Since the habits that contribute to obesity begin early in life, I offer some ideas to combat childhood obesity for you to trash: employ self-control -- eat healthier and exercise --- and eliminate the daily six pack of pop at home; be a parent -- kick your kids off the computer, the TV, and video games -- make them do physical things, like go outside and play; get soda/candy vending machines out of the schools (and no bringing it from home); no junk food in the school cafeteria.
Have to agree with Babboy. My eyes started to glaze over during your third sentence.
Me thinks BABBOY is having Twinkie withdrawal . . . .
Speaking of that . . .
If Mangino is offered the coaching job at Colorado, will he be up for it if there are no HoHo's?
Now that Colorado has legalized weed, I bet Lil Debbie stock goes thru the roof.
I was thinking brownie mixes.
Think of this picture or something like it anytime you want to stick something in your pie-hole
or take in less calories than you use......
More hike and bike trails that connect will be an asset that will attract new economic growth for it displays a real interest in keeping the entire community healthy. One high dollar structure far away from most neighborhoods doesn't do it.
Make all sidewalks safe to walk or jog in Lawrence,Kansas.
Construct more hike and bike trails that connect east Lawrence to west Lawrence and South Lawrence to North Lawrence. Make it safer for all of our children to transport themselves and get exercise at the same time.
Lawrence needs a safe walkable/cycling community. This all could done for a whole lot less tax dollars than the very expensive field house project which will be anything but convenient.
Exercising is best accomplished when it is convenient. As I keep saying make it safe, simple and convenient.
Again construct more hike and bike trails that connect east Lawrence to west Lawrence and South Lawrence to North Lawrence. Make it safer for all of our children to transport themselves and get exercise at the same time. Lawrence knows hike and bike trails will be made use of which is obvious by the number of human bodies on these safer opportunities as we speak.
Again more hike and bike trails that connect will be an asset that will attract new economic growth for it displays a real interest in keeping the entire community healthy. One high dollar structure far away from most neighborhoods doesn't do it.
Eat healthy and exercise more? Now lets move to the real world. The government could offer free liposuction, tummy tucks, and lap band surgery. Problem solved. For those of you that are too serious, I was being sarcastic :0)
I hear that Meth makes you skinny.
recess is going away at most elementary schools as well as PE. how many kids do you see outside playing when you drive through neighborhoods? its a We and Halo world now. pass me the remote.
Not true. All the elementaries in Lawrence have at least one recess (maybe even 2 in some cases). They also still have gym, though I will concede it is possible it may not be every day anymore. In fact, I know that a good chunk, if not all, of the elementaries have something called "marathon club". The kids get a chance to run laps after school on early release days. They can log their totals and get recognition for the cumulative distance they've run.
Turn off the TV, Videogames, etc. and get the heck outside. Eat less big DOH here and exercise.
Oldbaldguy, We get Halos now? Throw in some wings & we could really get some exercise. I have never seen a fat angel.
Banning mocha lattes. Please, I'm addicted.
Safer Hike and bike trails = exercise = stay out of cars more often = weight control
If safer hike and bike trails connect to shopping/visiting/errands in general = weight control
City dwellers would benefit most of course then again would impact air pollution as well as weight.
back in the day, 3-5 mile run every morning with PT. in the field wearing LBE, weapon and helmet for hours on end, C- rations, later MREs or no food at all, smoking cigars and cigarettes, drinking a lot of crappy coffee, waiting for hours to do something, doing it and waiting again, lot of stress, fear from getting shot at and fear of letting down your men, extremely hot temperatures, soaking wet uniforms, freezing your extremities off when the track heater broke. drinking to excess when given the opportunity and doing it all over again. you will lose weight.
Drink an eight ounce glass of water before each meal.
Coke and Pepsi are not breakfast foods.
I think part of the problem is we are eating more carbs since WWII than previous generations. We're eating more pizza, sandwiches, bakery goods and foofoo beverages than our great grandparents and grandparents ever did. We're also eating huge portions and no hard labor to burn it off. We seem to be deluded that we're farmhands who needed to fuel up to bring in the harvest by hand, but instead we go home and couch surf in front of the idiot box!
Ban bees so people have less excuses to avoid going outside.
Don't snack between meals and don't drink any kind of soda, not even "diet". It's a crime to call it diet. Read the ingredients and see the garbage you're putting in your body. For me the key is about a gallon of coffee, 7-8 of them Red Bulls, and 3-4 packs of cigarettes per day. I'm 6'0" and I weigh 82 lbs.
You can always try the Crazy Marlon Brando Method. He used to padlock his fridge before he went to bed, then get up in the middle of the night and break into it. He also used to sneak into neighbor Jack Nicholson's house and leave a pair of his dirty underwear there. For Christ's sake......
For some reason clinically insane people tend to stay fit and trim.
Pywacket, if you're a chick I think I'd like to date you. I bet you're in fantastick shape and a monster in bed!!
marketing techniques and the motivation of manufactures to sell more products coupled with human preferences.
if you wanted to make a buck in the food business would you try selling celery sticks to the masses or another version of fried potatoe/grains? in order to sell more of your fried foods you are going to have to create appeal. madison avenue knows just how this can be accomplished.
here's another factor: if you were a cave man stocking up for a lean winter, would you choose a low fat, low calorie vegetable or a high fat high calorie food. as a species, we are programmed to prefer these survival foods.
manufactures and advertisers know this only too well. repeat this combination over and over from age 2 to 80 and you have an obesity epidemic.
combat this? it takes a helping heaping of self control. pure and simple. or impose what would be seen as intolerable limitations on the food and advertising industry.
I love the taste of brownie cheesecake, Ben and Jerry Pumpkin cheesecake ice cream, Krispy Kreme pumpkin cake donuts, bagels with cream cheese and ham.
The whole concept of health and nutrition is totally boring as a subject as good as it may be for people to follow. It is not about junk food vs. healthy, cheap vs. pricey, it is abut what tastes good.
I seem to recall you mentioning in another post that you're overweight - not surprising if that's what you eat.
Remove the price supports for sugar and ban high-fructose corn syrup.
five gallons of gas a huge pile of tv's cell phones i pads computers wii psp x boxes etc. and a match.
Jobs that pay a living wage, entertainment cost reasonable, less crime on the streets, lower gas prices, less junk factories like hostess crappy twinkies and Lays over-salted chips. Perhaps if there were job availability more people would be working instead of sitting on their bum worried about how to meet ends and if wages were equal to cost of living perhaps there would be less depression about making ends meet. If entertainment cost were more affordable people would be out and about instead of sitting home depressed and worried. If there were less crime on the streets there may be more folks out and about and not worried about being robbed, mugged or shot. We need less crap processed snacks like twinkies and lays potato chips in stores and more naturally made snacks, cakes and chips. More education on eating healthy and definately better lunches at schools.
"Everyone go naked in public." SOS you win!
I really hate when someone is more brilliant than me :) Oh yes if we had to see some of these seriously obese people nasty @$$ people naked it would be “Occupy Fat Farm!” and Obama would be flying over the area assessing damage.
Heard if you drive by the Lay's factory in Topeka on a hot summer's day with the windows rolled down, you'll never eat another potato chip the rest of your life. Something about the aroma of rancid oil wafting in the air.
I have been striving to eat better for the last year. Cut sugar completely out and also any food that is white - rice, white bread, potatoes. Then went gluten free about 4 months ago. Losing weight slowly but steadily, I do cheat occasionally but that is okay as long as I keep it under control. I notice that my grocery bill is a bit lower but I do have to spend more time preparing my food. I feel so much better though - lots more energy. I need to pump up the exercising but I do wait tables about 4 days a week and that is a work out all by itself! I do not drink any soda even diet soda since it has sugar substitute. When I want a bit of sweetener in my coffee I use agave nectar. Oh yeah - lots of tiny, wafer-thin after dinner mints. ;-D
Good for you!

It seems like the neighborhood has learned to live with the situation[location of Naughty but Nice across from Mass st. Dillans]. So don't make them move.
Business will no doubt improve with the new attention…kids will become aware. That part of Mass is so retail. How many gas stations sell rubbers aka Condums?
I've never checked these places out but I am becoming evermore curious.

Nude buffs ready for Naked Hiking Day
Updated: Friday, 19 Jun 2009, 11:09 AM EDT Published : Friday, 19 Jun 2009, 11:09 am edt
hagerstown, Md. (AP) - Every year on the first day of summer, a few outdoor enthusiasts nationwide expose virtually all of themselves to insects, scrapes
and thorns for the pleasure of bonding with nature au naturel.
They call it Naked Hiking Day.
"There's no way to explain it until you experience it," said Andrew Williams, 28, a machinist from Warren, Pa., who first hiked naked six or seven years
ago. "It's not about being lewd and crude and all that. It's just enjoyment."
This year, the summer solstice falls on a weekend -- this Sunday. Father's Day.
Hikers who prefer clothes are not happy.
Rangers and police warn that people caught outdoors in the altogether could be charged with indecent exposure. Managers of the Appalachian Trail, where
the tradition is sometimes observed by those trekking from Georgia to Maine, also discourage nudity.
"It's just rude," said Brian King, spokesman for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. "People are out there hiking with their kids
and families, and there are Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts."
Law enforcement authorities say they see so few nude hikers, even on Naked Hiking Day, that they don't consider it a big problem.
"It's rare, probably because we have a lot of remote territory out there where one would not be detected," said Capt. Woody Lipps of Virginia's George Washington
and Jefferson national forests, which contain parts of the Appalachian Trail.
Ranger Tammy McCorkle, of the state-managed South Mountain Recreation Area in western Maryland, said she hadn't heard of Naked Hiking Day until last year,
when visitors reported seeing a group of naked men on the Appalachian Trail. By the time an officer caught up with them, all 10 were clothed; eight received
warnings for disorderly conduct after acknowledging they had been nude.
"We're aware it happens on the summer solstice day," McCorkle said. "With through-hikers -- people who hike the trail all in one season -- it's kind of
like an unofficial tradition for them."
Nude hiking is a European tradition, too, not that it's any more welcome there. Voters in Appenzell, Switzerland, passed legislation in April banning naked
hiking after dozens of mostly German tourists started ambling through their region wearing only hiking boots and socks.
Nude-hiking advocates say they aren't out to startle people.
so, now when you read Merrill on hiking, all you hear isn't "blah blah blah" anymore?
We Kansans just MIGHT be able to reduce obesity by...not growing corn, milo, jaylo, wheat and soybeans...also by eliminating fast food, feedlots...and hog, chicken and BS production/consumption...etcetera.
Don't kill the messenger!
My name is JJE007, and I have a tough time approving of this message...
Pass the ribs, please!
Habenero infused forks
Make the cookie aisles no more than 12 inches wide.
Send the skinny people away.
There are some people that have to live with the terrible depression that results from horrific mistakes made decades ago. In many cases, eating high calorie foods or drinking alcoholic beverages seems to be the best way to dull the pain.
The next time you see an overweight person that you don't know, keep in mind that you have no idea what all sadness they have gone through in their lives, and maybe that's why they eat or maybe drink so much. It's an escape.
Fix all the sidewalks plus build more and more miles of hike and bike trails throughout all Lawrence neighborhoods = best bang for the tax buck. Let this be the legacy of the current city commission.
The new 50 million $$$$$ field house will not solve the problem = worst bang for the tax buck.
Don't build it! Reckless spending will not look good in the portfolios of local elected officials.
Stay Away from all Fried and Greasy Foods, Eat Cake....or Get Liosuction, that will drop a few pounds off the Old Bod...(;)
Stay away from GLUTEN!! IT's in everything...sticks to your ribs. 8-(
or, besides Merrill's nude hiking, he's promoted nude gardening, an nude biking.
there are three great ways to keep the weight off according to merrill, bang for the buck.
