Longfellow

Virginia and Delbert Longfellow

Delbert and Virginia Longfellow announce their 60th wedding anniversary.
Delbert and Virginia were married March 18, 1948, in Bentonville, Ark. They have lived in Lawrence for 60 years.
Delbert worked for Lawrence Paper Company for 45 years and retired Jan. 1, 1992. They have four children: Sterling Longfellow, Lawrence; Jay and Diane Longfellow, Wichita; Anita and Tim Gardner, Plain City, Utah; and the late Gary Longfellow. They have nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Frederickson

George and Mary Frederickson

George and Mary Frederickson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today with a family party at the home of their son and daughter-in-law in Leawood.
George Frederickson and Mary Williams were married March 14, 1958, in the St. George Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Utah. They met while they were students at Brigham Young University.
Mary received a nursing degree from BYU and an English degree from Eastern Washington University, Cheney. During the early years of her marriage, she worked as a public health nurse.
George graduated from BYU and received graduate degrees from UCLA and the University of Southern California. He has held faculty positions at several universities and served ten years as president of Eastern Washington University. He has been a visiting professor at Oxford University in England and at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. He has been the Edwin O. Stene Distinguished Professor of Public Administration at Kansas University since 1987.
They have four children: Thomas and Leslie Frederickson, Leawood; Christian and Jenny Frederickson, Bloomington, Ind.; Lynne and David Rago, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and David and Julie Frederickson, Herndon, Va. They have 15 grandchildren.

Anniversary

Helton

Bill and Barbara Helton celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Friday March 14 with a family dinner at the Eldridge Hotel.
Bill Helton and Barbara Carroll met as students at Wichita State University. After Pearl Harbor, Bill worked for Boeing and then served in the U.S. Army. He and Barbara were married March 14, 1943, at the Post Chapel at Fort Leavenworth.
They lived in Battle Creek, Mich., where Bill was stationed until he went overseas to New Guinea and the Philippines. He served as a medic with the military police.
After the war, Bill and Barbara moved to Chanute, where Bill took over running the family paint and wallpaper store, which later became the Helton House of Color. He was called to active duty again in 1950 in the Korean War and was discharged in 1951. In 1961, he became the business manager for the Ashley Clinic in Chanute and retired in 1987.
During World War II, Barbara attended special classes at Kansas University and received a certificate in aeronautics. She worked at Boeing in Wichita to support the war effort. In Chanute, Barbara worked for the Southeast Kansas Area Center on Aging and retired in 1988. She was active in volunteer work.
Bill and Barbara were active members of the Chanute Country Club. Bill served as president of the Chanute Kiwanis Club. They moved to Lawrence in 1997. They belong to First United Methodist Church.
Their children are Carol and Jim Roberts, Lawrence; Richard and Mechalina Helton, Salinas, Calif.; and Joan and Ken Myers, Lawrence. They have five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

John Carson and Lori Bourgeois

Lori Bourgeois, Junction City, and John Carson, Manhattan, announce their engagement.
Lori is the daughter of Claude Jr. and Kathy Bourgeois, Lecompton, and Lucy Bourgeois Smith, Ephrata, Pa., and the late Terry Smith.
John is the son of Bill and Norma Carson, Manhattan.
The bride-to-be is a 1998 graduate of Junction City High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Kansas State University. She has a daughter, Justice Rexrode.
The future groom is a 1994 graduate of Manhattan High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University. He is an equal part owner of Carson Home Sales, a family business.
The couple plan a Sept. 27 wedding in Manhattan.

Richard and Debbie Smith, Ottawa, announce the engagement of their daughter, Cassandra Leigh Smith, to Aaron D.T. Bushell, both of Wichita. Aaron is the son of Don and Barbara Bushell, Lawrence.
The future bride is a 2003 graduate of Lee's Summit High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in marketing and communications from Wichita State University in 2007. She is employed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita.
The future groom is a 1998 graduate of Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School. He received a Master of Business Administration from Wichita State University in 2007. He is employed at Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita.
The couple plan a June 7 wedding at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.

Charlie and Pam McLeman, Glasgow, Scotland, and Kay and Kip Grosshans, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their children, Pauline McLeman and Evan Grosshans.
The bride-to-be received a master's degree from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, in 2006. She is a doctorate student majoring in physical and analytical chemistry.
The future groom is an alumnus of Lawrence High School and Kansas University. He received a master's degree at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow.
The couple plan an April 5 wedding at Sandyford Henderson Memorial Church, Glasgow.

Trish Averill and Eric Neuteboom were married Oct. 13, 2007, at Liberty Hall, with Justice Eric Rosen officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Ric and Jeanne Averill, Lawrence.
The groom is the son of J.P. and Connie Neuteboom, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Maid of honor was Tracy Derning. Best man was Matthew Gaus. Bridesmaids were Lucy Averill, Danielle Cervone, Stephanie Frensley, Jacqueline Grunau, Sophia Tate and Heidi Wells. Groomsmen were William Averill, Seth Jones, Rich Lloyd, Jeremy Shepard and Jonah Sheridan.
Flowergirls were Liliana Rosen Jackson and Lindsey Studzinski.
A reception followed at Liberty Hall.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in theater at University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. She is employed as the speech and theater teacher at Southwest Junior High School.
The groom is a 1996 graduate of William J. Palmer High School, Colorado Springs, Colo. He received a Bachelor of Arts in American history from Kansas University in 2001. He is employed as employer programs manager at the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
The couple reside in Lawrence.

Kylee Boyd and Jon Moore were married March 1, 2008, at Clarice L. Osborne Chapel at Baker University, with the Rev. Jane Simmons officiating.
Kelsey Moore, the groom's daughter, and Taylor Moore, the groom's niece, were their attendants.
The bride is the daughter of Tom and Diana Boyd, Baldwin City.
The groom is the son of Maxine Moore, Ottawa, and the late Paul Moore.
The bride graduated from Baldwin High School. She received an associates degree and a paralegal certificate from Johnson County Community College in 1996. She is employed at Keating & Associates Inc., Lawrence.
The groom is a graduate of Ottawa High School and attended Emporia State University. He is employed at Bones Transportation, Ottawa.
The couple reside in Ottawa.
