this game scares me more than any other so far this year. inside out is the right approach against this zone but i’m not sure if we have the discipline yet to make that work, so it will come down to the amount of turnovers/missed layups in the paint and the success of collins/x on premature, impatient 3’s. i’ll say 85-81 KU but without confidence.

ICTHAWKFAN — Great question about Cole. He’s obviously a big key tonight with the size Baylor has. With the recent loss of his grandmother, it’s tough to know how he’ll react. Just remember, though, that no matter how much he is struggling offensively, he still is, hands down, KU’s best defender. His blocks are up and his fouls are down from last year. It’s awfully tough to do both of those at the same time.

akg — I believe that KU Athletics has the exclusive rights to the game, so it prevents the live streaming of local radio stations so that it can charge on its Web site for the game. If KUAD is looking to make money, blocking KLWN and other stations is the only way to go.

melrank — Not too much. I believe Josh Selby, the No. 2 PG in the class according to Rivals, is going to visit soon. I believe KU is one of his favorites. Other than that, I haven’t heard much. Royce Woolridge, who is already signed, is scoring a ton of points during his senior year in Arizona. Also, a couple other highly ranked guys are waiting until the spring to decide.

Zaveeaa — I’ll have to go with KU’s bigs, though I’m a big fan of Udoh for Baylor. Marcus Morris needs to have another big game for KU, especially against the size that Baylor puts out there (6-10, 6-10, 7-0). Also, the way that KU tries to beat the zone is by moving the ball quickly and getting it to the free-throw line and also the short corners. When Marcus gets it inside, he needs to make good decisions, whether it’s attacking a big man or getting it back outside for an open shot.

Cole was throwing down some nasty dunks earlier, but honestly, I wasn’t looking for the “fire in the eyes” as closely as I should have been. He was a bit emotional earlier this week when talking about his grandmother, so again, it’s tough to predict how he’ll perform out there tonight.

kuwells — Gary Bedore usually is nice enough to pick me up, and we arrive about 1 hour, 40 minutes before the game. After grabbing a bite to eat in the media room, I usually go over my notes from the game and start the blog with you guys. Most of the time, I go ahead and come out to my media seat at least an hour early just in case Sherron Collins is in street clothes or something crazy is happening (He’s not, by the way).

I’m wondering with their size if BU can handle our bigs without packing it in and double teaming. If so, they can really spread the floor with their length and put some pressure on our perimeter game.

If the Wildcats play defense like that, they’re going to be tough to beat in March. They commit too many fouls, but that can actually be an advantage come March, as usually officials like to keep the whistles even in the NCAA Tournament.

Our bigs have to take it strong right at BU’s bigs. None of this fall away junk or baby hooks from 10 feet away. Take the ball with two hands right up into the chin of the big guys and the refs will call a defensive foul. If we can get a couple of them in early foul trouble, it will loosen things up inside.

I don’t want to see X and Sherron and Brady and Tyrel settling for 3 point shots all night. No more than 18 attempts from beyond the arc, fellas! Get the ball into the middle of the zone around the free throw line and crack it.

Even better than settling for half-court offense: put some pressure on the darn ball and get out in transition. Jump Baylor with full court pressure after made baskets during spurts to throw them off; trap them in the half-court when they are coming off ball screen or they pass it to the corners.

wayward — I don’t see Baylor unseating Texas any time soon (money and facilities with a good coach always seem to keep a program on top), but I might buy the OU argument. The Sooners are struggling mightily, even with headline players like Willie Warren and Tiny Gallon. OU really needs to focus on defense, where it has been awful this season.
