KU-Oklahoma pregame

February 22, 2010

This chat has already taken place. Read the transcript below.

Moderator:

95-60 KU. That's right. Thirty-five points.

I'm going to think a second about my first team All-Big 12 selections ...

kuwells:

Are you copying me? I already picked KU 96, OU 62

Guess again, Jesse

Jesse Newell:

Great minds think alike?

Actually, I picked KU to win by 35, and it's hard to say OU is going to score much less than 60. And I'm not going to predict 100 points for KU, because OU doesn't play that fast.

kuwells:

Cant we just chat over on the Newell post, or are you trying to reduce the number of comments by moving pregame banter over here?

And are you working on my Bedore/Billy Tubbs homework assignment?

number1fanfromillinois:

I'll take KU- 99 OU-54 big time blow out!

Jesse Newell:

KUwells — I think it's easier to read this way. And I feel like I can type things in quicker.

KU_Commodore:

I was all over OU +21.5. I see an emotional letdown from the guys, but we still win by at least 10.

markster956:

Big 12 Selections: Sherron, Pullen, James Anderson, Damion James, Cole.

Jesse Newell:

markster — I like your list. Hard to argue with those. I think Collins will be selected even if his recent slump might keep him from being a no-doubt selection.

randysavage:

Do we have any recruits in town for the game??

KU 82
OU 65

boomer1110:

KU 92 - OU 62 - and I may be generous on their score...depends on how well we play "D" - I have a hunch they want to get their piece of the title now!

Jesse Newell:

randy — I'll ask Shay Wildeboor from Rivals.com when I see him. But on a Monday, I can't imagine many kids from outside of Kansas could make the trip.

boomer — Are you an OU fan?

riverdrifter:

Whoops! I'll pose this one here, too.

2nd half of the Uconn/WVU hackathon started at 709pm CST. What's the over/under on the telecast delay of the KU/OU game?! I'd say 712p, sans OT.

Jesse Newell:

I've read all the articles and all the arguments about why ESPN doesn't change the Big Monday game times. I'm still just shocked that the games can't start at 8:15 here instead of 8:08. Seems simple to me.

number1fanfromillinois:

Its 10:42 left at 7:36 so I'm going to say 8:17 pm

kuwells:

Jesse, I guess great minds do. Provided the final score isn't 59-54! And I agree, I think OU can get to 60 and I don't think Coach will allow 100.

I think coach might have the team focused on playing a 40 minute game. If so, poor sooners. And with that being the focus, it would be hard to call of the dogs. So, this could look like a LMU score from the late 80s. Or, perhaps an OU vs. Centernary score during the Tubbs era...

KU_Commodore:

Bristol gets mad when games cut into SportsCenter. It will likely never change.

Jesse Newell:

commodore — You are right, but if they were super mad about that, wouldn't they start the Big Monday games at 8 p.m. flat instead of 8:08?

kuwells:

Why cant ESPN just do a little PIP window with the KU game. What is so difficult in doing that? Spending too much $$$ on clever little commercials and not enough on technology?

MrPilot:

Why can't ESPN just switch to our games in our region? Nobody in Kansas (or Oklahoma for that matter) wants to watch the end of UCONN/WVU - no matter what the score. If they can switch when it's a blowout, they can switch when it's close.

KU: 91
OU: 70

All Big 12 First Team: Collins, Aldrich, Henry, MC Morris, Taylor

That's right. Nothin' but KU baby. I don't care if it breaks the selection rules or not. :-P

Jesse Newell:

^^^^^Two more great solutions for ESPN's problems^^^^^^^

okjhok:

I like Markster's list also...maybe Clemente over Pullen. However, as much as I love Sherron, I'm not sure he's achieved at that level during league play. Marcus has definitely played better. Either way, KU has to get two on that list.

kuwells:

Collins
Aldrich
Pullen (that hurt)
Anderson
Dunn

(And I don't really care if I don't have a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Jesse Newell:

Yeah, I was thinking Dunn might have a gripe (20.7 ppg in Big 12 play) if Collins makes it over him. Collins has the hype, though.

kuwells:

I mean really, how can you leave Dunn off a list??? Sherron has the No. 1 team. If he's left off and is on the second team, he should have played for the No 1 team.

boomer1110:

No Jesse!
Absolutely not...I was the first student in the history of the University to broadcast a game live from Allen Fieldhouse on the student radio station...see also ..."old guy." But I was good!

Jesse Newell:

Cool story boomer. Sorry. Only reason I asked was because "boomer" was in your username. That's usually associated with the Sooners.

melrank:

I'd be hard pressed to not go along with the Markster's list - well done.

I like the abundant confidence from Jayhawk Nation tonight.

I'll be debbie downer and say

KU 83
OU 79

Just to relive the 1988 Championship one more time . . .

okjhok:

As bad as Texas has crashed, you can't leave Damion James off the list. He has absolutely carried them when he had to.

jaybate:

Is it true that ESPN's staff that decide when to switch to KU games make the decision while taking peyote in the nude and being seduced by escorts supplied by east coast schools that are already on the air?

Is it true the Dick Vitale's brain case is fitted with microwave relay equipment that allows ESPN to switch to any game ESPN wishes from the game Vitale is covering and that his head has been reformed through years of repeated plastic surgeries into a spheroidal shape perfect for bouncing television and cell phone signals up to satellites in geosynchronous orbit?

Is it true that Jay Bilas trims his own flat top with a Stihl extended hedge trimmer?

Is it possible that Jeff Capel understands that all the bad luck he had with Blake Griffin's injuries last season and with injuries to Willie Warren this season all stem from his decision to have one of his players thug ball Russell Robinson into the cheap seats at a game a few years back?

boomer1110:

I understand...picked it up because of Chris Berman...just always liked the nickname...take care! Go Hawks.

melrank:

OK maybe we'll score 50 by halftime and that will be like the '88 game . . .

kuerb:

How much of the game will we miss due to the WV and U Conn game?

Byrd313:

Sherron
Dunn
Anderson
James
Aldrich

jaybate:

KU 123
OU 51

Jesse Newell:

The KU cheerleaders are all wearing white headbands. No, I don't know why.

Jesse Newell:

OK, the headbands are for Beat Cancer Week. Big Jay and Baby Jay have them too.

kuwells:

They are the Taylorettes...

nmcbeth:

I say kansas by 25, and we will not see the game till about the 12 min mark. Too many fouls in the UCONN/wv

On another note, is anyone still having problems with the videos on this website, or i it just me?

Jesse Newell:

OK, guys. Thanks for the chat. I'm closing it up. Switch over to the live blog for photos, polls, updates, anaylsis and more.

Byrd313:

You can buy the headbands on kuathletics.com for $5.99.
