What is the key, do you think, to teams getting better as the season progresses under some coaches (Kansas) and not under others (Texas)? I am talking about a several season sample, not just this year…

friedy — Good question. Self talks about “peaking” at the right time a lot. The way he does it is that, early in the season, he keeps a lot of things very basic for his team. Players aren’t allowed to switch on screens — they have to fight through them. Self believes that way they learn the right way to play defense. As the season goes on, Self adds more wrinkles to his offense and defense. That way, he believes his team is playing its best and most complete basketball at the end of the season.

Texas looks really poor – lots of turnovers, poor offense, guard play is sorry.

I’ve been a big believer in Texas this year, but I’m starting to wonder if they are an elite level team or not.

Super Mario Kart was awesome on the Super Nintendo. I’ve heard this elsewhere, but it’s true for me as well: Whenever I see a banana peel in the street, my first instinct is to swerve to miss it.

And the baseball game I played on Nintendo was Baseball Simulator 1.000. You could play your games in space. And also make your players super fast.

Definitely Tecmo Super Bowl. Touchdown special with the Eagles…Cunningham at QB with the run/pass option…unstoppable, even against the blitz. I was absolutely addicted to that game.

I was going to try to meet you at Boulder Wednesday night, but we got stuck in traffic and ended up missing the first 10 minutes of the game. I don’t go to any other games than the KU/CU game here every year (FB and BB both), and I wanted to ask you if the CU student section was indicative of most other student sections in other venues? I didn’t mind the constant booing and BS chants, but when they took the lead and started chanting “F-you KU” at the end of regulation I was appalled. Your thoughts?

denver — Sorry you got caught up in traffic. I was able to meet KUWells while I was there, so we could have had our own little pre-game gathering.

I would say, for a non-KSU/MU crowd, CU’s fans were more vulgar than normal. I think most of the anger from them came because there were so many KU fans in their own building (and there are every year). That has to get old when 35 percent of the people there are cheering for the other team.

As far as noise goes, I thought CU’s fans did a pretty good job. It was extremely loud at the end of the game.

That’s right. I’m with two of my buddies that are both Texas boys. We had to stop to watch this fiasco of a game. This is our fifth KU-UT game in Austin. Guys only weekend in Austin. We need to look better than Texas does today.

pizza — I like Sadler, but I think his time is running out. I was at his post-game press conference after the KU game, and you could tell he was frustrated. He kept acknowledging that his team should be able to compete with teams like KU. I think he’s a good coach, but he never seems to have the athletes.

I agree with the “invasion” in their house part. That would be frustrating. It seemed like it was more like 50-50 with the fans to me. Our fans were really quiet I thought, that is until we took a good lead in OT. Then we got pretty loud ourselves. All in all, though, it’s not my favorite venue, but I know I’m biased! Nothing beats Allen Fieldhouse!!!

People think an unstoppable running back was key in that game; but no, it was a running QB, and QB Eagles was the best. Although, I will say, the Okoye/Word combo could be pretty effective, especially with DT on the other side of the ball.
