Chat about Christmas 2006 with Santa Claus
He knows if you’ve been naughty or nice. Here’s a chance to make your last-minute pitch to Santa Claus before the holiday rolls around!

that is a great looking Santa! I used to know a Larry Freeman years ago. He worked at Hallmark Cards. Surely this is not him…. I’d have never recognized him.. anyone know if it is the same Larry?

Santa:
How do you make sure the diamonds you bring my wife are not blood diamonds?
mseybold
Santa, What are your thoughts on the North Pole Marathon? Have you ever run it? Does the race ever go by the factory?
mseybold
Santa, Why do all your toys say “Made in China”?
useta
Dealing with the naughty and nice list, are you concerned with everyone, or just those who celebrate Christmas?
thubbard76
You don’t have anything to do with these new coal plants I’m hearing about do you?
bearded_gnome
Welcome to Lawrence, Santa! Every year, due to a navigational problem, you land on top of Weaver’s department store. next year, will you install a modern GPS navigation system to prevent this?
chewyfally
Hey Santa! I heard that you were actually the bishop of Turkey and that you reside in Spain.
What’s the deal?

Hi folks! I’m Joel Mathis, managing editor for convergence, and Santa is here! Welcome Santa! How are preparations for your big trip?
Santa Claus
All the elves are busy working on toys. The sleigh is ready to go, and the reindeer have been anxious for several days.

Santa if I am at my Grandpa and Grandma’s house for Christmas, how will you find me. Claire
Santa Claus
No problem! I know where all the little boys and girls are this time of year!
mseybold
I read in National Geographic that the magnetic north pole is constantly moving. Does this affect reindeer navigation every year? Or do you use GPS?
Santa Claus
We’ve gone to GPS, but the reindeer were never bothered by the magnetic poles.

Santa:
Do you prefer sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies, or chocolate chip cookies? I make a good molasses and chocolate crinkle cookie. Are those okay? Good luck on your flight.
Santa Claus
Baumlaw: I had a discussion here awhile back about cookies. I mentioned that warm chocolate chip cookies with a cold glass of milk were good. But then I thought about it for a minute and realized that peanut butter cookies and a cold glass of milk were good. And snickerdoodles and a cold glass of milk were good. So I guess to answer your question — most any cookie and a cold glass of milk is good!
familyman
Do you deliver toys on an empty stomach in order to eat all of those cookies?
Santa Claus
familyman: No — Mrs. Claus wouldn’t let me leave without a little something to get me started!
blue73harley
Please make sure our troops around the world get everthing they wish for. Merry Christmas!
Santa Claus
blue73harley: I don’t give everyone everything they wish for — because sometimes when an adult wishes for a million dollars, I can’t do that. I try to give everyone the things that they really and truly need!
toast52
Will I get a skateboard for Christmas?
Santa Claus
toast52: Skateboards, I usually talk to parents to make sure they feel you’re old enough for a skateboard and can use it safely!
imagold
There have been so many movies made about you over the years. Do you have a favorite Santa movie or a favorite actor that portrayed you? I’m partial to “Miracle on 34th Street” with Edmund Gwenn. Have a Merry Christmas and thanks for delivering my new computer early!!!
Santa Claus
imagold: We agree on favorite movies of Santa! After all, if you’re going to believe in Santa, then Edmund Gwenn certainly had everyone believing! And Merry Christmas to you!

Santa:
My kids want the Play Station 3 this year. How do your elves make all those component parts?
Santa Claus
baumlaw: It’s tough sometimes! But sometimes we don’t make as many Playstation 3s and that sort of thing as people would want for Christmas, because I feel it is better to do other things rather than sit around playing video games all day!

Santa: How big is your “naughty” list compared to your “nice” list?
Santa Claus
The nice list outweighs the naughty list by a very large amount, because it is really tough to get on my naughty list! It’s something you have to work at! But you need to work at the nice list all year!
Moderator
Do you still leave lumps of coal for the naughty folks? Or something more modern?
Santa Claus
We’ve changed from coal, because it’s too expensive and it’s bad for the environment! I usually try to find something else that isn’t as bad for the environment — and it varies from naughty child to naughty child!

Take me through your itinerary on Christmas Eve.
Santa Claus
I have a little snack, loading the sleigh, double-checking the naughty and nice list, making sure that the reindeer are ready to go. Then we’re ready for our mission!
Moderator
How do you get to all those children in one night?
Santa Claus
If you’re aware of the way the Earth turns, I start and follow the time zones so that I’m always on time! It doesn’t hurt to use a little magic!
Moderator
We don’t want to take too much of your time — any more messages for the kids?
Santa Claus
Don’t forget that you need to be good all year! And that means doing what your parents tell you! And being good to other people! I’ll be looking forward to all the cookies and milk, and the reindeer I’m sure will enjoy all the treats you leave for them! And may everyone have a Merry Christmas!
