Jenkins puts up first TV ad in congressional primary

Tuesday, 15 July 2008

Three weeks before the Kansas Republican Party primary, Lynn Jenkins has launched her first television ad in her effort to become the GOP nominee for the 2nd congressional district, which includes west Lawrence.

Jenkins, the state treasurer, faces Jim Ryun in the primary. Ryun, a former five-term congressman with massive name identification from his days as a champion runner, was defeated in 2006 by Democrat Nancy Boyda.

The new ad, broadcast in the southeast Kansas market, essentially introduces Jenkins as she criticizes Washington politicians and promises to oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants and not increase taxes.

Ryun has already been running two TV ads in preparation for the Aug. 5 primary.

The Statehouse Briefing appears semi-regularly during the week and includes items of interest relating to state politics and government. If you have a tip to pass along, please contact blog editor Scott Rothschild.

What about the war, Lynn? Any plans to cut billions in spending there?
