¢ Kansas University ranks 79th among 100 colleges and universities included in the Trojan Sexual Health Report Card. The report card looked at how readily available condoms and information at sexual health was on college campuses._Many college students may be left ill-informed about safer sex and more at risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancies because of a lack of access to information about sexual health and availability of condoms at some schools, according to the Trojan Sexual Health Report Card – released today from the makers of Trojan brand condoms and Sperling’s Best Places – which is the first survey that grades the sexual health of colleges and universities across the country and ranks them._¢ Developments in a county administrator position in Florida may have revealed a finalist for the city manager position in Lawrence. Gary Shimun, assistant city manager in Pembroke Pines, Fla., withdrew his name over the weekend in the job search to be county administrator for Pinellas County, home of St. Petersburg, because he is interviewing for a job in Lawrence, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Lawrence city commissioners haven’t released their list of finalists for the city manager job._One of the five finalists has dropped out of the running for the county administrator job, Human Resources director Randy Petitt said Monday.__Gary Shimun, 50, of Pembroke Pines, withdrew his application over the weekend, Petitt said, because he is interviewing for a job in Lawrence, Kan._¢ Al Oerter, KU athlete in the 1950s who won several Olympic gold medals, will be honored next month by the New York Athletic Club, the New York Times reports._The New York Athletic Club will hold a dinner Oct. 11 to honor Al Oerter on the 50th anniversary of the first of his four Olympic gold medals. Oerter was a 20-year-old University of Kansas sophomore when he won the discus at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. He also won in 1960 in Rome, in 1964 in Tokyo and in 1968 in Mexico City. In each of those Games, he defeated the world-record holder and broke the Olympic record._¢ There are plenty of KU alumni in the Chicago area. But that’s not why Sport Fan store in Wheaton sells a lot of KU merchandise, according to The Business Ledger, a suburban Chicago paper._Gorski said his store also sells a lot of University of Kansas merchandise._ _Why?__Because little kids like the dancing bird logo (actually, the Kansas Jayhawk.)__”Kids tend to either pick a winning team or a nice logo,” Gorski said._¢ KU’s observance of the national Constitution Day got a mention in a blog on www.huffingtonpost.com._In Lawrence, Kansas at the University of Kansas this Saturday, everyone’s going recite the Preamble to the Constitution before the Jayhawks take on the University of South Florida in what’s sure to be an absolute nail biter._¢ “Jericho,” the CBS series depicting life in a western Kansas town after a nuclear attack, continues to get compared to “The Day After,” the 1983 movie depicting Lawrence after a similar attack. The latest comparison comes from Dusty Saunders of the Rocky Mountain News._By the way, TV writers must feel Kansas is an ideal setting for this type of doomsday story.__In November 1983, ABC aired The Day After, an engrossing TV movie about the effects of a nuclear attack on Lawrence, Kan.__The film, directed by Nicholas Meyer, drew a huge audience and provoked a great deal of political debate and media attention because the drama provided grist for anti-nuclear groups and peace activists in the U.S. and around the world._
