Woman shocks relative with stun gun during disturbance at Lawrence home

A woman reportedly shocked a relative in the chest with a stun gun during a disturbance Tuesday morning in Lawrence. There was also a hatchet involved in the same incident — but not put to use.

According to Lawrence police Officer Derrick Smith, in an email:

Police were called to a disturbance with weapons about 9 a.m. Tuesday in the 3400 block of Harvard Road. The woman who lived there reported that her cousin — who was staying at her house — came into her room demanding money she owed him and got angry when she didn’t pay. She told police she felt threatened and shocked her cousin in the chest with a stun gun. The man then “picked up a hatchet, which was … inside of the room, for protection,” though he did not threaten anyone with it.

The man left the room, no injuries were reported, neither person wanted to press charges, and no one was arrested.

In a separate incident around the same time Tuesday morning, police also responded to a reported robbery near Ninth and Iowa streets.

In that case, a man in the 800 block of Iowa Street told police he’d been robbed by some people he knew, Smith said. Police arrested a suspect and planned to forward the case to the DA’s office.

A 26-year-old Baldwin City man was booked into jail later that day on charges of aggravated robbery, kidnapping and theft in connection with the incident, according to jail records.
