Media days, Tim Tebow and a Big 12 all-decade team

Big 12 Conference Football Media Days begins next week in Dallas, and I’ll be attending with fellow staffers Jesse Newell and Dugan Arnett. Starting Monday morning, we’ll be live blogging from the Westin, site of this year’s event.

Thoughts on KU’s lineup? On the best lineup? I’m going with Oklahoma as the best cast.

Now onto random college gridiron thoughts … As many people have heard, Tim Tebow was recently asked if he was saving himself for marriage at SEC media days. Yikes. Tebow actually answered the question. I give him credit for that. Footage can be seen below:

As college football fans, do you guys care about stuff like this? I ask because I’m wondering if Sam Bradford and/or Colt McCoy will be asked the same thing next week at Big 12 media days. If they are asked, I won’t be doing the asking because, frankly, I don’t care about the status of these guys’ V-cards.

I’ve been reading up on the new Lindy’s magazine for about a month now and came across a cool feature I wanted to share on here. In the 2009 Big 12 preview edition, Lindy’s chose a Big 12 all-decade team.

The magazine didn’t list specific dates, but I’m guessing it’s since the conference’s inception in 1996. Here’s its first-team offense and defense:

Offense
QB: Vince Young, Texas (2002-05)
RB: Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma (2004-06)
RB: Chris Brown, Colorado (2001-02)
WR: Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech (2007-08)
WR: Rashaun Woods, Oklahoma State (2000-03)
TE: Daniel Graham, Colorado (1998-01)
C: Dominic Raiola, Nebraska (1997-00)
OL: Jamaal Brown, Oklahoma (2000-04)
OL: Justin Blalock, Texas (2003-06)
OL: Jason Smith, Baylor (2004-08)
OL: Jonathan Scott, Texas Tech (2001-05)
All-purpose: Wes Welker, Texas Tech (2000-03)
K: Mason Crosby, Colorado (2003-06)

Defense
DL: Cory Redding, Texas (1999-02)
DL: Casey Hampton, Texas (1996-00)
DL: Tommie Harris, Oklahoma (2001-03)
DL: Justin Smith, Missouri (1998-00)
LB: Rocky Calmus, Oklahoma (1998-01)
LB: Curtis Lofton, Oklahoma (2005-07)
LB: Derrick Johnson, Texas (2001-04)
DB: Terence Newman, Kansas State (1999-02)
DB: Derrick Strait, Oklahoma (1999-01)
DB: Roy Williams, Oklahoma (1998-01)
DB: Michael Huff, Texas (2002-05)
P: Daniel Sepulveda, Baylor (2002-06)

Thoughts?

I’m fine with pretty much all these picks. Maybe Aqib Talib for Derrick Strait on the first team, though. Or Dez Bryant for Rashaun Woods. After this year, that will probably be the case.

For local reference, the KU guys Lindy’s included were Talib and Anthony Collins on the second team.

I suppose no one can argue Vince Young for first-team quarterback. The only other signal caller to lead his team to a BCS Championship in the Big 12 era was Josh Heupel of Oklahoma in 2000 and well … the Sooners’ defense was the main reason they won that year.

I will say this much: If Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy leads their team to a BCS Championship this season, I would immediately bump that quarterback to the best who’s ever played in the Big 12.

That’s all for now, friends. As always, discuss. Talk to you guys on Monday from Big D.
