KU baseball suffers 3 losses during 4-game series at Florida Gulf Coast University

In the second weekend of the 2021 campaign, the Kansas baseball team dropped three of four games in a road series against Florida Gulf Coast University.

KU won the series opener, 5-3, on Friday before dropping three in a row to fall 3-4 for year. Right-hander Ryan Cyr got the starting nod in Game 1, giving up one earned run over seven innings to go along with four strikeouts. Dylan Ditzenberger delivered three hits in four at-bats to lead the offense in the win.

The Jayhawks dropped a 6-5 decision on Saturday in the second game. FGCU scored four runs in the first two innings. First baseman Nolan Metcalf and right fielder Jack Wagner both posted multi-hit performances in the loss.

Kansas was swept in a doubleheader on Sunday, falling 2-0 in seven innings during the first game and suffering a 3-2 loss in seven innings during the finale. Third baseman Skyler Messinger recorded two of the four hits in the first game. Casey Burnham was credited with two hits in the nightcap.

Kansas will take on Lipscomb for a four-game series next week in Nashville, Tennessee, starting with the opener at 4 p.m. Friday.
