Kaw Valley FC falls in Elite Eight

Kaw Valley FC was eliminated with a 4-2 loss against the Flint City Bucks in the the Elite Eight of the USL2 national playoffs Sunday night in Des Moines, Iowa.

The season-ending defeat came just two days after Kaw Valley FC topped Chicago FC United, 3-2, in a thrilling double overtime victory. Chicago FC United was actually the 2019 Great Lakes Division Champions during the regular season, while the Cranes finished second in the Heartland Division.

In the Elite Eight, Kaw Valley FC surrendered a pair of scores within the first 15 minutes. The Cranes evened things up at 2-2 by halftime, which came via scores from David Ray and Manel Busquets. The Bucks reclaimed a 3-2 advantage within 11 minutes into the second half before adding another goal for good measure.

The loss in the Central Conference final put a sour end on a stellar season for Kaw Valley FC, which finished with a 8-4-4 clip. The Cranes managed to make a postseason appearance in their second year as a program after posting a 6-6-2 record last summer during their first season.
