A tip to Lawrence police has led to the recovery of a stolen firearm and the arrest of an individual suspected of auto burglary.

Officers were called to a residence around 2 a.m. in the 2100 block of Carolina Street after a man was reported to be in possession of a gun and he was claiming the gun was stolen, said Sgt. Drew Fennelly in an email. When police arrived, the man was cooperative and allegedly told officers that he had stolen it, along with other items, from a pickup truck at an unknown location in Lawrence.

Police believe the auto burglary occurred sometime overnight from Monday to Tuesday. The gun and other recovered items are being stored as evidence until the owner can be identified, Fennelly said.

The man, Clinton Patrick Jacques, 33, was arrested on suspicion of auto burglary and being in possession of a stolen firearm. He is listed in the Douglas County Jail booking log as being a Lawrence transient. He is being held without bond.
