A woman was charged Friday in Douglas County District Court with aggravated assault and unlawfully firing a gun in the Lawrence city limits — crimes that allegedly occurred just weeks after she was given probation in another case.

In addition to those charges, the woman, Sarah Nicole Larkin, 34, of Kansas City, Missouri, was also charged with criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to charging documents.

The charges relate to an incident on July 7. The Lawrence police incident log indicates that police took a report about a domestic disturbance with weapons around 6 a.m. No one was physically injured during the incident and it occurred between two people who know each other, police spokesperson Laura McCabe said. The address where the disturbance occurred was redacted.

Larkin was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 1300 block of Vermont Street by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies, according to the jail booking log.

Larkin’s new charges come only weeks after she was given a 123-month sentence for drug distribution by Judge Stacey Donovan — a sentence that Donovan suspended to 36 months of probation, according to court records.

Larkin has additional felony convictions in Douglas County, including attempted aggravated burglary and drug distribution from 2019. Donovan sentenced her to 29 months but suspended that sentence to 24 months of probation.

Larkin appeared Friday afternoon before Judge Blake Glover via Zoom from the Douglas County Jail. Glover appointed Michelle David to be Larkin’s defense attorney and set a $15,000 cash bond. Larkin’s next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
