Washington — Voting in the races for the Democratic and Republican presidential nominations happens again Tuesday, a week after President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump secured enough delegate support to become their parties’ presumptive nominees.
Biden and Trump will appear on primary ballots in four states: Arizona, Illinois, Kansas and Ohio. Trump also will appear on the ballot in Florida, which canceled its Democratic primary.
Neither candidate faces strong challenges, although “None of the Names Shown” will be a ballot option for both primaries in Kansas.
The first indications that Biden and Trump are winning statewide on a level consistent with the overwhelming margins seen in most other contests held this year may be sufficient to determine the statewide winners.
Voters registered with a party may only participate in their own party’s primary. A voter who is not registered with either party may declare an affiliation at any point up to and including election day.
• Democratic presidential primary: Biden, Jason Palmer, Dean Phillips, Marianne Williamson, “None of the Names Shown.” 33 delegates at stake.
• Republican presidential primary: Trump, Ryan Binkley, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, “None of the Names Shown.” 39 delegates at stake.
As the Journal-World has reported, this will be the first state-run presidential preference primary in Kansas since 1992. This type of election can only take place with an act from the Kansas Legislature, which voted during the 2023 session to authorize a primary just for this year.
