The 28th annual Civil War on the Border series is set to begin next week in Lawrence.

This year’s event, Aug. 18-20, will have the theme of food insecurity, past and present. Featured events will include bus and walking tours of local Civil War sites, in-person and online talks with historians and a free screening of the new documentary “I’m So Glad: Kansas City and The Roots of Black Gospel Music.”

Tickets are now on sale for the various activities at www.watkinsmuseum.org.

A portion of each tour ticket sale will be donated to Just Food, and donations of nonperishables will also be accepted on site. Participants will also have the chance to win a piece of Lawrence history in the form of a reproduction print of 1859 Lawrence.
