Two new COVID-19 deaths bring total to 66; 38 new cases in county

Douglas County's 14-day average of new COVID-19 cases for Feb. 4, 2021

Two more Douglas County residents have died from COVID-19, according to the local health department’s update about the virus on Thursday.

The health department’s dashboard did not have updated information about the age ranges of the two people who recently died from the virus, and representatives from the health department did not immediately respond to a request for information about the new deaths, including age ranges, gender and whether or not the individuals were hospitalized.

Douglas County reported 8,276 cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday, an increase of 38 cases since Tuesday.

In Douglas County, 7,664 out of the 8,276 cases are inactive or beyond the infectious period, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health, meaning 612 cases are active.

The county has averaged about 27 new cases per day over the last 14 days, according to a 14-day moving average graph updated weekdays by the health department. The current average of 27.29 new cases per day is down from a recent high of 70 cases per day in early January.

Douglas County has a 14-day COVID-19 incidence rate of 317.57 per 100,000 people and a test positivity rate of 2%. Test positivity rates are 5.9% in Eudora, 4.3% in Lecompton, 3.7% in Baldwin City and 1.8% in Lawrence.

Nine patients at Lawrence’s hospital had COVID-19 on Thursday, one fewer than Tuesday.
