Starting later this week, the Douglas County District Court Clerk’s Office will be closing early to process the thousands of documents that have been filed since an October cyberattack compromised the statewide digital filing and records systems.
Douglas County announced the change to the office’s public hours in a news release Tuesday morning. Starting Thursday and continuing through February, the clerk’s office will be closed from 3 to 5 p.m. on weekdays so staff can process more than 23,000 documents — the result of a “sophisticated foreign cyberattack” that affected the daily operations of the state’s appellate courts and district courts in 104 counties.
With that change, the clerk’s office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. on weekdays.
Per the release, the District Court is “working diligently” to update the case management system with all the information from cases filed during the period when the system was inaccessible and that continue to accrue.
“We appreciate the public’s patience as we work to catch up from the backlog that was caused by the security incident,” District Court Administrator Linda Koester-Vogelsang said in the release.
