A suspect was arrested Friday after a pursuit that began on North Iowa Street and ran across the Kansas River bridge into North Lawrence, according to Lawrence police.

Officers were dispatched at about 11:40 a.m. Friday to the 2300 block of Packer Road for a report of a man who had multiple warrants for his arrest, Lawrence police Sgt. Drew Fennelly told the Journal-World via email. He specifically said the man was wanted on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a domestic violence incident.

As officers were arriving on scene, Fennelly said, one of them saw the suspect leaving in a vehicle. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, Fennelly said.

Law enforcement pursued the vehicle south on North Iowa Street, east through the Pinckney neighborhood, south to Sixth Street and north across the Kansas River, Fennelly said. He said that officers were able to box the vehicle in at 420 North St., and that when the suspect tried to flee on foot, officers chased him down and arrested him without further incident.

No injuries or crashes were reported as a result of the pursuit, Fennelly said.

According to Douglas County Jail booking logs, Francis Paul Dressler, 37, of Lawrence, was booked into the jail at around noon on Friday on suspicion of two probation violations and attempting to flee or elude law enforcement. He is being held without bond.
