Back in February, the University of Kansas football staff became the first to offer Blue Valley North defensive lineman Miles Emery a spot among the college ranks. Since then offers came from Oklahoma, Louisville and other programs, but on Tuesday morning Emery decided to stick with David Beaty and company.

Already on KU’s campus, competing with BVN at the Jayhawks’ high school team camp, Emery made the most of his trip, verbally committing to the Kansas coaches.

A 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive end, Rivals ranks Emery as a three-star talent, and the second-best Class of 2018 prospect in the Sunflower State, behind only Norton quarterback Jace Ruder.

KU defensive coordinator Clint Bowen recruited the talented defensive lineman from nearby Overland Park.

According to Emery’s conversation with Jon Kirby of Jayhawk Slant, the high school senior feels confident about his decision.

“I talked to a lot of coaches and did a lot of looking into each college,” Emery said. “Kansas is the school I want to be at.”

Emery became the third in-state prospect to commit to the Jayhawks’ 2018 class, joining Wichita Collegiate offensive lineman Mac Copeland and Coffeyville Community College defensive lineman Zach Burks, who played at Olathe North.

KU’s commitment list for the still-months-away National Signing Day now runs 10 deep. Emery is one of seven three-star prospects in the group, according to Rivals. The 2018 class, of course, is headlined by a pair of Louisiana teammates: Landry-Walker’s Devonta Jason, a five-star receiver, and Corione Harris, a four-star cornerback.

As of Tuesday morning, Rivals ranked KU’s commitment list as 19th in the nation and fourth in the Big 12.
