Jayhawks to open Big 12 portion of 2017-18 schedule at Texas on Dec. 29

Kansas coach Bill Self calls to his players during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game against Texas, Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, in Austin, Texas. Kansas won 77-67.

The Kansas men’s basketball team now has a clearer view of what the path to a 14th consecutive Big 12 title looks like.

On Thursday, the Big 12 Conference released the 2017-18 conference schedule. Bill Self’s Jayhawks will open defense of their 2016-17 title — the program’s record-tying 13th in a row — on Dec. 29 at Texas.

From there, the Jayhawks will host their Big 12 opener on Jan. 2 at Allen Fieldhouse against Texas Tech.

For the 12th consecutive year, KU will play the maximum of four Big Monday games — two at home, two on the road — on one of ESPN’s showcase nights for college basketball and also will enjoy a season in which every game will be televised.

Twenty-three games will be shown on ESPN or ESPN2. CBS will broadcast two KU games and ESPU will get one. All games shown by ESPN, including KU’s six games on the Jayhawk Television Network, will also be available on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.

KU’s return game of a home-and-home series against former conference rival Nebraska on Dec. 16 has yet to receive a television designation or start time.

KU’s first two ESPN Big Monday games will be on the road at West Virginia, Jan. 15, and at Kansas State, Jan. 29. The Jayhawks will host their final two Big Monday games, Feb. 19 against Oklahoma and Feb. 26 versus Texas, which also will be Senior Night at Allen Fieldhouse.

Since joining the Big 12, KU is 61-20 all-time on Big Monday (35-1 at home, 26-19 on the road), including a 42-12 under head coach Bill Self . KU has won 28-straight Big Monday games in Allen Fieldhouse, which includes a 24-0 mark under Self.
