Shooting woes: Kansas is shooting just 32.6 percent from the field, 55 percent from the free throw line, and 31.3 percent from beyond the arc in its first two games of the season. Sophomore Chelsea Lott and senior Jada Brown are the only two players on the team that are shooting 50 percent or better from the field. Even KU’s top two scorers — junior McKenzie Calvert and sophomore Jessica Washington — are shooting 31 and 26 percent from the floor, respectively. As a result, the Jayhawks have suffered through long scoring droughts in each of their first two games, and that’s played a big part in their 0-2 start.

Press success: Kansas didn’t have much success in Wednesday’s 75-63 home loss to SMU, but one thing that did work was its pressure defense. The Jayhawks forced 19 turnovers, and a good portion of those came in the final 5:36 of the game when Schneider opted for a full-court press. The Jayhawks ended the game on a 13-2 run and put together what Schneider called their best quarter of the game. Schneider said he’s hesitant to press more often with the amount of touch fouls called in college basketball, but he thinks the Jayhawks have the personnel to do it more.

Streaking: Aisia Robertson didn’t shoot particularly well (4-of-12) but she did just about everything else on Wednesday. The junior from San Francisco scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds, barely missing her first career double-double. She was a major part of KU’s fourth-quarter surge, with seven points, four rebounds and two assists in the period. She also spearheaded the Jayhawks’ pressure defense with a team-high two steals.

Slumping: Kansas on the road. The Jayhawks lost all 11 road games they played in Schneider’s first season at KU. The Jayhawks’ road losing streak sits at 11, with their last victory coming in Feb. 2015 at Oklahoma. However, Kansas hasn’t won a non-conference road game since it won at Creighton in Nov. 2012.
