North Second Street closed Thursday night after semi hit train overpass

Four lanes of traffic were blocked in North Lawrence for several hours Thursday night, police said.

North Second Street in North Lawrence was closed off between Locust and Lincoln streets after a southbound semi hauling recycling materials collided with the Santa Fe train bridge, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Amy Rhoads.

The semi was too tall for the overpass, Rhoads said.

“Due to the collision, a large pile of debris was in the roadway,” she said.

The street was closed for about two hours, Rhoads said.

Rhoads could not say whether any injuries were reported in the incident, whether the bridge was damaged or if police cited anyone involved.

Further information was not immediately available.
