Lawrence native represented U.S., Kansas in worldwide bartending competition

Lawrence native Tyson Buhler represented the United States last month at the United States Bartenders’ Guild World Class finals in South Africa.

Although he didn’t place in the competition, Buhler will still carry out his reign as the 2015 USBG Bartender of the Year, his father, longtime Lawrence resident Mark Buhler, told the Journal-World. Tyson Buhler earned the title at the fourth annual World Class U.S. competition in June.

At the World Class finals, which took place in South Africa from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2, Tyson Buhler competed against 54 bartending professionals from all over the world.

Tyson, who graduated from Lawrence Free State High School in 2002, created a Kansas cocktail — made with corn-infused bourbon, pepper jelly, mezcal, lemon and egg white — to represent his home state in the “Around the World” challenge.

“”I’m very proud of growing up there, and I think it will be fun to showcase Kansas and what it means to be from there,” he told the Journal-World in August, a week before the World Class finals.

Tyson Buhler currently works as a bartender in New York.
