40 years ago: Primary voters narrow City Commission field

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 5, 1975:

Out of 29,304 registered voters, only 6,816 turned out for this week’s primary elections, narrowing the field of candidates for the Lawrence City Commission to six. The top finalists were Marnie Argersinger, Donald Binns, Dale Willey, Carl Mibeck, John Colyer Jr., and Robert Radcliffe, according to today’s unofficial totals. Three commissioners were to be selected in the April 1 general election, with the two top vote-getters to serve four-year terms and the third-place finisher to serve a two-year term. Turnout for this week’s election was light but slightly higher than the 6,602 that had voted in the 1973 primary.
