Young international piano competition winners to perform Saturday

Winners from the International Institute for Young Musicians International Piano Competition, which took place Sunday and Monday at Kansas University’s Swarthout Recital Hall, will perform at a special concert Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.

The institute is hosting its annual Summer Music Academy — which offers intensive courses for talented young musicians from around the globe — this month at KU.

Contest winners include: Samuel Xu of the United States (first prize), Chi Barry Zhang of China (second prize), Anastasia Magamedova of Tajikistan (third prize), Noah Qin of the U.S. (audience prize), and finalist-prize winners Qin, David Geng and Millicent McFall, all from the U.S.

Tickets for the concert cost $10 for adults and $8 for students, and can be purchased at the door. Children under 8 can attend for free. For more information, call the Lawrence Arts Center at 843-2787.
