Style Scout: Kendra Davis

Clothing details: Boots, , scarf, 50 cents, and tights, , all from Social Service League; top, , Kohl’s; jacket, 5, random store.

Name: Kendra Davis

Age: 29

Hometown: Newton, but by way of Lawrence

Time in Lawrence: About eight years

Relationship status: Co-dog parent

Occupation: Public health coordinator

Dream job: Probably a social service coordinator with a local government.

What were you doing when scouted? I’m on my way to Merchants so (my dog) Pearl can see her dog dad.

Describe your style: You must have caught me on a “chic day”! I’m pretty cheap so it’s whatever I find that is within my price point and that is also colorful and shiny. I kind of feel sometimes like I fell into a church rummage sale or a high school theater department’s closet. And whatever I grabbed onto is what I wore!

Fashion trends you love and hate: I really love boots as with leggings but I really hate leggings as pants! I don’t think they’re real pants.

Fashion influences: I love thrift stores. They’re my bread and butter. There’s no way that I can afford the closet I have. This coat was an expensive item but I blame my mother. She’s an enabler!

What would you like to see more or less of in Lawrence? More real-wage jobs for people that are starting out in business. Less non-participation. In light of our poor voter turnout in Douglas County, I’d like to see more active engagement in decisions that affect people.

Tattoos or piercings: I do have a tattoo. It’s my grandmother’s name in Chinese.

Whom do people say you look like? Anybody Asian. I also used to get the girl from “Drop Dead Fred,” Phoebe Cates.

What type of music do you like? Mostly lady rock — Neko Case and Jenny Lewis.

Tell us a secret: Foxtrot is my dirty secret. I get all of my shoes from there.
