KU softball edges OSU

? A five-run sixth inning and two-run seventh pushed Kansas University’s softball team past Oklahoma State, 7-6, on Thursday for the Jayhawks’ first Big 12 win.

The Jayhawks trailed 4-0 prior to plating five in the sixth, but they needed a little bit more to hold on for the win. The Cowgirls scored twice in the home half of the sixth to retake the lead on a two-run home run from Michaela Patton, but KU answered in the seventh with an RBI single from Daniella Chavez to tie it and an RBI double from Chanin Naudin to put the Jayhawks ahead for good.

Maddie Stein collected a team-high three of the Jayhawks’ 13 hits, and Lily Behrmann and Chavez knocked in two runs apiece.

Alicia Pille (18-2) rebounded from back-to-back losses as she gave up six runs on seven hits, while striking out six and walking one over seven innings.

Kansas (30-5, 1-3) snapped a three-game losing streak and will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. today for Game 2 of the three-game series against Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
