Seabury football wins, 62-60

Patrick Gutierrez scored on a 32-yard pass from Joe Simpson with 1:41 remaining to put Seabury ahead, then scored on a 31-yard interception return with 56 seconds left to preserve the Seahawks’ 62-60 victory over Independence Home School in high school football Friday night.

Seabury overcame a 38-18 halftime deficit, outscoring Independence 44-22 in the second half.

Simpson completed 16 of 20 passes for 352 yards and seven touchdowns and had 416 all-purpose yards. Marcus Allen gained 178 yards on 12 carries with one touchdown and 461 all-purpose yards. Max Easter had two interceptions for the Seahawks, and Gutierrez and Charlie Arnold each made 14 solo tackles.

Seabury (1-2) will play Friday at Wichita Word of Life.
