Harmon-Thomas wins heptathlon at Great Southwest Classic
Albuquerque, N.M. ? Free State High track star Alexa Harmon-Thomas won the heptathlon Friday at the Great Southwest Track & Field Classic.
Awarded points for her performances in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200, long jump, javelin and 800, Harmon-Thomas racked up 5,158 points — the most ever at the meet by a girls competitor from Kansas.
The score allowed the Firebirds senior to meet the A-standard for the World Youth Track & Field Trials, which are June 25-26 in Edwardsville, Ill. A top-two finish there, would give Harmon-Thomas consideration as a possible USA World Youth team member.
