Local artists join to help one of their own

Raising for Rose

Art Sale to aid with local artist Rose Kopf’s medical costs.

4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Carnegie Building, 200 W 9th St.

When Kim Brook heard her friend and fellow artist Rose Kopf was facing financial hardship due to a torn meniscus and a lack of health insurance, she turned to the community the two shared for help.

Brook partnered with local artists Karen Hanneman and Sorcha Hyland to organize “Raising for Rose,” an art sale from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Carnegie Building, 200 W 9th St., to help with Kopf’s medical bills.

Brook said the art community has been overwhelmingly helpful, seeking her out to help with the event.

“In the beginning, I thought I’d have to plead for donations, but they have been flooding in,” Brook said. “This is a community we’re a part of and love, and it has been extremely generous.”

More than 30 local artists have volunteered their time and donated their work, which Brook said has been inspiring.

Wine will be sold for $3 and holiday treats and spiced cider will be available at the event. All proceeds will go to Kopf’s health costs. Brook has set a goal of raising at least $3,000.
