ZOMBIE Walk/Bike/Run this Saturday

A ZOMBIE is coming to Lawrence on Saturday, but this one won’t attack. Its mission is actually centered on health and wellness.

The second annual ZOMBIE Walk/Bike/Run, hosted by Douglas County Housing, Inc., will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Edgewood Homes, 1600 Haskell Ave.

The goal of the event is to encourage healthy lifestyles focusing on the components of ZOMBIE, which stands for Zoning, as in healthy spaces, Outside activity, Movement of and Body image, Ingredients for meals and Exercise.

Local organizations such as Safe Kids, K-State Research and Extension and Parents as Teachers will host activities and distribute information at the event.

The ZOMBIE Walk/Bike/Run will also celebrate the opening of Edgewood’s Born Learning Trail, which includes signs explaining different activities or games parents can play with their children. Six youths who assisted with the construction of the trail will be on hand Saturday to lead families through the activities.
