KU soccer player joins Canadian U20 team

? KU soccer’s Sarah Robbins, a rising senior, was one of 24 players invited to train with the U-20 Canadian national team this week.

Robbins will compete to make the 20-player roster that will play in a two-week camp in Italy and Switzerland later in July.

The six-day camp runs July 3-8 at the Canadian National Training Center in Montreal. Canada will play in two women’s U-20 international friendly matches, on July 14 against Italy in Verbania, Italy, and on July 20 against Switzerland in Buochs, Switzerland. Earlier this year, Canada qualified for this summer’s U-20 women’s World Cup in Japan August 19 to September 8.

“For Sarah to be selected as one of the top 24 players is already an honor,” said KU coach Mark Francis. “We wish her the best of luck and hopefully she’ll be in Europe next month.”

Robbins, a midfielder, has appeared in 35 games for the Jayhawks.
