40 years ago: County commissioner stresses need for new judicial building

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 19, 1972:

Douglas County Commissioner Arthur Heck had said on the previous day that he considered a new city-county judicial building to be “the area of top priority and the most pressing need of the county.” Heck said that it might be necessary to hold a bond election for the project later this year. He added that the present crowded conditions of the courthouse at 11th and Massachusetts would be alleviated if the county judicial offices could be moved to the proposed facility.
