Girls fast pitch: The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for the 2011 Lawrence Girls Fast Pitch Softball Summer Leagues through April 1. 8-U (coach pitch) teams and leagues will be formed by individual registrations from schools and grades. 8-U players must be 8 years old or younger on Jan. 1, 2011. Participation fee is $65. The 10-U, 12-U, 14-U and 16-U Lawrence Girls Fast Pitch Softball Summer Leagues are now taking team registration for the 2011 season, through April 1. Wrestling club: The Douglas County Gold Freestyle/Greco-Roman wrestling club will begin April 5 at the South Gym in Baldwin City, located at Eighth & Chapel Streets. Practices from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. No fee, but USA card required. All ages and skill levels welcome.

Wrestlers compete: Lawrence Sunflower Kids wrestlers competed March 13 in the 2011 Kansas Middle School State Championships in Lindsborg. Alan Clothier, a South seventh-grader at 135 pounds, and Tristan Star, a South eighth-grader at 100 pounds, placed second and qualified for the Team Kansas National Wrestling Dual Team, which will compete in the AAU National Middle School Wrestling Duals from April 8-10 in Indianola, Iowa.

3-on-3 hoops league: Lawrence High girls basketball coach Nick Wood and Free State coach Bryan Duncan will be offering a 3-on-3 basketball league this spring for girls enrolled in grades 5-8. The league will be split up into a fifth-/sixth-grade division and a seventh-/eighth-grade division. Each team will play four, 10-minute games a night.
