City auditor to examine Lawrence’s rental registration program

The city’s rental registration program will be studied by the city’s auditor as part of his work plan for the next year.

Commissioners chose four topics for City Auditor Michael Eglinski to audit during the next 12 months. Looking at how the city’s rental registration program functions was near the top of the list. The program currently requires landlords who rent single-family properties to register, but landlords of multifamily properties are not required to register.

Other topics that Eglinski will study include:

• A review of several financial indicators for the city;

• The financial and operational relationship between the city and the county;

• A review of the city’s cash handling procedures.
