Brownback’s swearing-in ceremony site still up in the air
Kan. Gov.-elect Sam Brownback isn’t deciding whether to move his swearing-in ceremony indoors until right before the event today.
Brownback spokeswoman Sherriene Jones-Sontag said that the decision would be made this morning after officials see whether a snowstorm was arriving on schedule.
The National Weather Service was predicting up to 5 inches of snow today for the capital city.
The inauguration ceremony is usually held on the south steps of the Statehouse. The backup site is the Kansas House Chamber.
Jones-Sontag said the key issue is whether the Capitol steps, sidewalks and streets will be too slick for people to get around safely.
Brownback’s team did cancel appearances by out-of-town high school musicians so that they would not have to be out on the roads in the bad weather.
