Kansas women’s golf sits atop leaderboard

With two rounds complete, the Kansas University women’s golf team sat in first place at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Monday at Alvamar.

KU’s Grace Thiry is in second place individually, and Katy Nugent is tied for fourth.

Nugent’s second-round 69 was the second-lowest one-round total by a Jayhawk at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational. Only Amanda Costner’s 67 in 2005 was better.

After the first round, KU was tied for fifth, but a second-round 290 led to the Jayhawks leapfrogging Nebraska and taking first.

The 290 was the second-best one-round score in KU team history. The 2007 team posted a 286 at the Mountain View Collegiate in 2007.

The final round of the Marilynn Smith Invitational will begin at 8:30 a.m. today at Alvamar.
