Lawrence

• City crews will do concrete patching, curb and gutter repair and geometric improvements to the southwest corner of 23rd Street and Haskell Avenue. Single lane closures will occur, but traffic heading in all directions will be accommodated. No turns will be allowed from northbound Haskell to westbound 23rd.

• Crews will lay brick in the 1100 block of New York Street and close the intersection of New York and 12th streets. The project should be completed by late October or early November.

• The Kansas Turnpike’s East Lawrence interchange, Exit 204, remains closed for reconstruction. It is set to reopen by Oct. 16.

• Indiana Street from West Sixth Street to West Eighth Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for a water line replacement project.

• Alabama Street from West 10th Street to West 11th Street will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and no parking is allowed due to a water line replacement project.

• Crews continue patching and curb and gutter removal work in various areas of Lawrence, with temporary lane closures — but no detours — expected during such work.

Douglas County

• Motorists traveling on Douglas County Roads 1055 and 460, which link Lawrence to Baldwin City, could see delays as the county begins overlaying portions of the road. Flaggers and possibly a pilot vehicle will move traffic through the work zone.

• Construction is under way along portions of Douglas County Road 458 and Douglas County Road 1023, a stretch of rural road that runs south and west of Clinton Lake. Public Works crews will be using flaggers and pilot vehicles to direct traffic through the work zone. Delays can be expected through October.

• Douglas County Road 1029 from the Franklin County line to North 100 Road will be closed until mid-October. The county plans to replace three culverts.

U.S. Highway 56

• A 12-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 56 from U.S. Highway 59 to the Johnson County line is being resurfaced. Alternating lane closures will occur for traffic heading in both directions. Flaggers and pilot cars will guide traffic through the work zone. Crews will work west to east Monday through Friday during daylight hours. The project is expected to be completed in mid-October.

U.S. Highway 59

• Expect construction work at the U.S. Highway 59 and U.S. Highway 56 intersection. Both highways will remain open, but traffic routes will shift. Drivers need to use caution and drive slowly while moving through the intersection. The project, which includes reconstruction of pavement along U.S. Highway 56 and construction of a new frontage road along U.S. Highway 59, is scheduled to be completed in early October.

• North 200 Road is closed at U.S. Highway 59 for frontage road construction work. The road will be tied to the new frontage road that runs parallel to the new U.S. Highway 59. Work is scheduled to be completed in late 2012.

• North 650 Road is closed at U.S. Highway 59 and to the west for work on a frontage road, interchange ramps and new bridge to carry North 650 Road over U.S. Highway 59.

U.S. Highway 24

• Starting on Tuesday, U.S. Highway 24 in Topeka will have varying ramp closures at the U.S. Highway 75, 25th Street and Goodyear Road interchanges for milling work. Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The project is expected to last until the end of the week.

• Eastbound and westbound traffic is reduced to one lane from the intersection at Kansas Highway 16 and U.S. Highway 24 in Tonganoxie east to the Wyandotte County line. The pavement repair work is scheduled to be completed in early fall.

• Mud Creek Bridge along U.S. Highway 24, east of Lawrence Municipal Airport, remains limited to one lane of traffic as crews add pavement to the bridge deck. Expect delays, as traffic is governed by temporary traffic signals expected to be in service until late fall.

• A four-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 24 will have varying lane closures just west of Menoken Road to just west of Rochester Road. Crews will start resurfacing work on the eastbound lane moving east toward Rochester Road. When that side is completed, they will move to the westbound lane and work west toward Menoken Road. The project is scheduled to be done in late October.

• U.S. Highway 24 west of Topeka will be down to one lane for both directions over the bridge that spans the Union Pacific Railroad tracks to Menoken Road. Traffic signals will regulate the single lane of traffic, and drivers should expect delays. No left-hand turns will be allowed at the U.S. Highway 24 and Menoken Road intersection.

Interstate 70

• Eastbound and westbound lanes on I-70 through Topeka just east of Urish Road and to Danbury Lane will have varying lane closures for pavement marking work from Monday through Friday between 6 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Work is expected to be completed by Friday.

• Heading westbound on I-70, the left lane will be closed from the Kansas Turnpike Authority’s east Topeka toll gate plaza to the Carnahan Avenue exit. Crews repairing the concrete pavement will be working Monday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers should expect lane closures, and interchange ramps could be closed along that stretch of road. Work will continue through October.

• Drivers on the Kansas Turnpike just east of Lawrence are limited to one lane in each direction as crews rebuild turnpike lanes from just east of the interchange to a point just west of the Lawrence service area. The limits are expected to remain until just before Thanksgiving; the service area is scheduled to remain open throughout construction.

• The eastbound and westbound lanes will be reduced to one lane of traffic from 118th Street to Kansas Highway 7 for resurfacing work. Crews will be working Monday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day. The project should be completed by Oct. 15.

• The eastbound bridge spanning the Kansas River in Kansas City will be reduced to two lanes of traffic on the right side of the bridge while repair work on the left side of the bridge is completed. The ramp from Washington Boulevard to eastbound I-70 at Third Street will be closed. Work is set to be completed by mid-October.

• Lane closures and intermittent ramp closures will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily along I-70 from 18th Street to the Missouri state line and from 78th Street to I-635. The project is scheduled to be completed in mid-October.

Kansas Highway 10

• Traffic is reduced to one lane on a short stretch of Kansas Highway 10 in Johnson County. To complete repair work on a bridge spanning the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane from Woodland Avenue to Ridgeview Road. Crews will work on the left side of the bridge first and then the right side. Traffic will be restricted to an 11-foot maximum lane width during the project and speed limits will be set at 45 miles per hour. Weather permitting, the work is scheduled to be completed in October.

Kansas Highway 32

• Eastbound and westbound lanes will be reduced to one lane from Bonner Springs to the Douglas County line for resurfacing work. The work will occur from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Flaggers will coordinate with pilot vehicles to guide traffic through the construction zone. The project will last into the middle of October.

Interstate 470

• A two-mile stretch of westbound I-470 will be reduced to one lane from Gage Boulevard to 21st Street. Work will be done Monday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The project is expected to last through October.

Interstate 435

• On Tuesday, the eastbound right two lanes will be closed on the bridge spanning over Pflumm Road for repairs to the bridge deck. The work is expect to be completed within the day.

• A repair and resurfacing project is under way for the westbound and northbound side of I-435, from 87th Street to Antioch Road in Johnson County. Work is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday throughout the weekend. Drivers should expect delays and find an alternate route if possible. The project is to be finished in October.
