Trial delayed in cemetery theft case

? The trial of a Hutchinson cemetery owner accused of stealing more than $800,000 from two cemetery trust funds won’t start Monday after all.

Reno County District Judge Richard Rome agreed to push back the trial for Sharon McDonough until June 1. He had denied a request for a continuance but said Friday he agreed because her defense attorney says he won’t be ready and “serious plea negotiations” are still taking place.

McDonough is the owner of Fairlawn Burial Park and Heritage Funeral Home. She has pleaded not guilty.
