Decision delayed on homeless outreach

Commissioners deferred until their Feb. 23 meeting a request from the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center to modify a city contract related to homeless outreach workers.

Because of funding cuts from the state, Bert Nash leaders sought to eliminate one of four homeless outreach positions. Commissioners delayed taking action on the item at the request of the Lawrence Community Shelter, The Salvation Army and ECKAN.

The three organizations asked for time to work with Bert Nash on ways to fund the outreach worker position.
