De Soto hoops earns split

? Shorthanded, the De Soto High boys basketball team opened up the Tonganoxie Invitational on Monday night with a 57-45 victory over Atchison as it looks to win the tournament for the second straight year.

De Soto played without sidelined juniors Jon Hastings and Mason Wedel.

De Soto (7-3) was tied with Atchison (1-5), a team the Wildcats had already defeated this season, at 27 after two quarters.

But DHS opened the second half on a 20-4 that broke the game open.

Chanute 47, De Soto girls 37

Kelsey Fisher scored 10 points and Katie Gorman scored nine, but the De Soto girls fell on Monday to Chanute in the first round of the Tonganoxie Invitational.

De Soto led, 15-14, at the half, but was outscored, 33-22, in the second half.

Ashley Gorman and Tami Crow added seven apiece for De Soto (4-5).
