Bonner Springs festival begins today

A festival named after a founding father of Bonner Springs is scheduled for this weekend.

The 2010 Tiblow Days Festival commences today with a carnival in downtown Bonner Springs and continues through Saturday. The festival is named after Henry Tiblow, a Delaware Indian who in the 1800s started a ferry service across the Kansas River at what is now Bonner Springs.

Among this year’s festival events are the annual “Smokin’ on Oak BBQ Competition,” plus a Saturday morning parade, a 5-mile run and 2-mile walk, free concerts Friday night and Saturday, and a Saturday night fireworks show over the Kaw.
