Douglas County corrections officer recognized for preventing suicide

A Douglas County corrections officer was recognized recently for preventing an inmate from committing suicide at the jail last year.

Brett LaRue received the Bronze Award at the Joint Kansas Law Enforcement Conference banquet in Topeka.

“The Bronze Award recognizes officers who demonstrate outstanding achievement above and beyond normal law enforcement responsibilities and duties,” said Sgt. Steve Lewis, spokesman for the Douglas County sheriff’s office.

“Sheriff Ken McGovern is pleased whenever staff supports the sheriff’s office mission by demonstrating professional excellence, and is particularly gratified that Officer LaRue received this honor,” Lewis said.
