Kansas Democrats deny placing online advertisement for U.S. Senate candidate

? Things are going slow for the Kansas Democratic Party, but recruiting candidates on craigslist?

There on the internet classified site is a listing seeking Democrats to run for the open U.S. Senate seat in Kansas in 2010.

“The successful candidate will work for the constituents of Kansas and the entire United States of America and its territories,” the ad starts. No phone calls, please.

But Andrea White, a spokeswoman for the state Democratic Party, said Thursday that the ad wasn’t generated by the party.

“We didn’t post it,” White said. “Someone has a sense of humor, and we are certainly not recruiting on craigslist for candidates.”

So far, however, no Democrats have jumped into the race.

“I’m sure that we will have candidates, and when they choose to announce, they will do so,” she said.

The Democratic candidate, whoever it is, will face a well-financed Republican foe in the winner of the GOP primary between U.S. Reps. Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt.

The seat is being vacated by a Republican, U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback who is running for governor. A Democrat hasn’t been elected to the U.S. Senate from Kansas since 1932.

Here’s how the craigslist ad reads:
