Woman killed in Ottawa shooting

Man arrested in connection, victim identified as 19-year-old woman

A 24-year-old Ottawa man was arrested in connection with a shooting Friday that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old Ottawa woman.

According to a release, Ottawa police were called to a residence in the 700 block of South Hickory Street at 8:16 p.m. Friday after a reported shooting.

Authorities found Sky Nicole Cadarette dead in the residence. Police said the victim appeared to have died from a single gunshot, but the exact cause of death is pending until an autopsy is completed by a medical examiner.

The Ottawa man was arrested on charges of second degree homicide, and is currently being held without bond at the Franklin County Adult Detention Center.

The suspect and the victim both lived at the residence at which the shooting took place. The call originally came in as a drive-by shooting, but police said reports of a drive-by were unsubstantiated.

Members of the Ottawa Detective Unit and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are continuing the investigation.
